1. Name / pronouns? Meg (she/her)

2. Favourite song to skate to?
Chaise Longue by Wet Leg

3. What empowers you?
My friends! I feel so much braver and willing to try new things when I’m skating with a crew than when I’m at the park alone. With a squad the falls feel smaller and the accomplishments feel bigger.

4. Biggest struggle for women / non-binary?Most of us have spent our whole lives thinking we should make ourselves smaller and be pleasant. To take risks and make noise goes against everything we’re taught when we’re young, but I feel like to be happy in life you have to be willing to take up space.

5. How has skating impacted your life?
The biggest impact is definitely how my confidence has skyrocketed. Before I started skating I didn’t really have any hobbies and was feeling some loss of purpose. Working hard for and unlocking tricks give me a sense of accomplishment that I didn’t realize I was missing.

6. What do you want people to be aware of?
I want people to be aware that it’s okay to take a break from social media, or even from skating. The skate Instagram community is such a lovely and welcoming place, but it’s so easy to mentally turn it into a competition for the most followers or the coolest tricks/videos. It can do a real number on your mental health, which is the complete opposite reason most of us skate in the first place!

7. What have you learned during the pandemic?

I’ve learned that there’s no such thing as time 😅 we are all going on 2 years older than we were when this started, and everyone I know feels the same age they were when it started. Sometimes it feels like time is moving too fast with nothing happening, but I try to gain perspective by remembering one day this time will just be a small slice of our histories.
