Name? Elizabeth Curiel
Favourite song to skate to?
Anything from the 2000s, but I really like listening to Pon de Reply by Rihanna. I need that high energy music when I skate hehe.
3. Weird thing about you?
I’ll eat olives as a snack anytime.
Define beauty?
How you treat other people, and your morals in life. How you love other people is how you love yourself, and that says a lot.
Biggest struggle for women?
We have learned that we need to prove ourselves worthy in order to be respected, when the other sex doesn’t need to do that. I see this a lot at the skatepark, and It’s hard to unlearn that.
What do you want others to be aware of?
How they treat others. The energy you give others and your environment effects other important things in life.
When do you feel most empowered?
I feel most empowered when I feel comfortable in my body, and I don’t think too much about the people around me. Also when I stick up for myself and express my opinions because I’m not used to doing that.
What steps have you been taking to try and detach yourself from this feeling of otherness/unworthiness at the skatepark?
Some things I’ve been trying to do to feel more comfortable at the skatepark are surrounding myself with people I trust as well as not overthinking the small things. I tend to do that and it helps let go a little.
What’s your favourite trick and why?
My favorite trick is whatever I’m trying to learn because when I’m trying to learn something new it’s exciting. Right now I’m trying to learn back side slides!
