1. Name and pronoun?
Drag, she/her
If you don’t want to call me Drag, please call me Michelle. My name is not Chelsea, please don’t call me that 🙂

2. Favourite song to skate to?
Literally anything ska and oldies that are up-beat! Abba, Queen, Less Than Jake, Goldfinger. Two completely opposite ends of the spectrum, I know. LOL but hey that’s me.

3. What empowers you?
Being a fat woman skating at the skatepark. Breaking the mold and exceeding expectations is literally the most rewarding and empowering feeling I have ever felt.

4. Biggest struggle for woman and or non-binary?
Well, I can’t speak on the biggest struggle for non-binary friends because I identify as a woman, but I will say that the biggest struggle I have had as a woman is how people treating you like you are less intelligent based on gender. Some people don’t even do it on purpose it’s just how they were raised. This is an issue I often see at the skateparks with older men, gives me hope that our current generation is getting its shit together a little bit more.

5. How has skating impacted your life?
I know that everyone says it, but roller skating literally saved my life. If I didn’t start playing roller derby back in 2009, I don’t know where the hell id be, or even if I’d be.

6. What do you want people to be aware of?
The roller skate community from the outside looks like a super safe space, but no one can determine what is a safe space for you. Something that is considered safe to one person might be toxic to another. I am always concerned about people coming into the community and assuming that everyone is a safe person to share secrets with, or that everyone has your best interest in mind. Yes. The roller skating community tends to be more on the safe side but don’t let anyone determine that for you.
